Beijing

Posted by Derek on 9th November , 2006

I just returned from a great business trip to Beijing and Hong Kong. Zhang Jin, Tony’s brother, and his friends showed me all around Beijing and made sure I had a great time seeing all of the sights. We had alot of fun trying different restaurants and visiting all of the tourist spots in the area. I can’t wait to make another trip over and bring Beth with me.

Quilt

Posted by Derek on 8th October , 2006

I had mentioned this to a few people, so I thought I would post some pictures for all to see. When my parents came a visited a few weeks ago, my Mother gave Beth and I a new quilt that she’s been working on for a while now. We really love it and it looks great with our new bedroom furniture. Check out more pictures here.

Beth’s new haircut

Posted by Derek on 20th August , 2006

Beth has been growing her hair out for a while in order to donate it to Locks of Love. Yesterday, she finally did it. They cut off over 12″ of hair. Not only did she do a good thing for somebody else, she got a very cute new look in the process!

I’m Back

Posted by Derek on 18th August , 2006

3 weeks after leaving for Tokyo and after 30 hours of traveling back from Singapore, I made it back to Raleigh around 11:30 last night. It was a great trip and I got to experience a completely new part of the world. I learned important things like how much the Japanese like vending machines, that you can’t go anywhere in Asia without being more than 5 minutes from a KFC, and that in Malaysia you can have up to four wives.

Shanghai was particularly fun. I got to meet up with one of my friends from business school, Fred Fu, and he gave me the full tour of Shanghai. It’s an amazing city. 20 years ago, you could count the number of sky scrapers on two hands. Just take a look at my picture gallery to get an idea of the phenomenal growth that’s occurred there. It’s one of the most fascinating and fun cities I’ve ever been to. I can’t wait to go back. Where else can you get a custom suit for less than $100, dinner for two at a dumpling restraunt for less than $3, and any DVD you want for under a $1?

Our New Painting

Posted by Derek on 16th October , 2005

Beth and I went to an art show today run by Art Shows International. It was at the Holiday Inn near the Crabtree Mal. We came home with this painting of a canal-side cafe in Venice. At 38″x48″, it wouldn’t fit in either of our cars so I had to pay for a mini-van taxi to get it home. It was a great deal though and we’re going to go back to the next show that these guys put on to buy some more paintings. They had some nice paintings of French Cafes, the Eifel Tower, and some mediteranian sea side settings that we really liked.

New Irons

Posted by Derek on 7th October , 2005

I recently came across a very lightly used set of Miura forged cavity back irons that was for sale. Long story short, they’ve found a new home in my golf bag.
